Your data stays on this phone
Loam has no account to sign up for and no server of its own. Your accounts, transactions, budgets, rules and settings live in a database on this phone, and none of it is sent to us or to anyone else. There is no analytics, advertising or tracking.
Backups and exports
Loam keeps its data on this phone, and iCloud Backup copies it with the rest of the device when it is on. Restore that backup on a new iPhone and Loam comes with it. That copy sits in your own Apple account, under its terms. Export writes a file, and where it goes from there is up to you.
What Loam looks up online
To value what you hold, Loam looks up public figures: exchange rates, prices, inflation, interest rates and money supply. During setup it looks up which country the phone is in, to suggest a currency. These requests carry only currency codes, tickers, dates and country codes, never your balances or transactions, though like any website these services see the phone’s IP address.
Bank messages
Loam reads only the bank messages your own Shortcut passes to it, and files the charges they describe. Messages are read on the phone and not kept: Loam stores only a fingerprint of each, so none is filed twice. When no pattern Loam knows fits a message, that one message and its sender go to Loam’s pattern service, which writes a pattern for it and keeps nothing. The pattern is saved on the phone, so later messages of that shape never leave it.
Screen lock
Face ID, Touch ID and fingerprint checks are made by the phone itself. Loam learns only whether the check passed.
Deleting your data
Start fresh erases everything Loam holds on this phone, and deleting the app removes it. The copy in your device backup is managed from your iCloud settings.
